From Factory Floors to Climate Frontlines: Women workers’ reframing union agendas for worker-led climate adaptation

Keywords

Overview

This paper examines how women union leaders in Cambodia’s garment sector are reframing the labour agenda into a form of feminist climate governance from the ground up. In global supply chains that deepen precarity, indebtedness, and ecological degradation, women garment workers – largely from rural, low-income backgrounds – are at the frontlines of intersecting economic […]

Overview

Indonesia’s nickel downstreaming agenda has positioned mining expansion as part of a global green energy transition. In South-East Sulawesi, this expansion has intensified ecological degradation across inland nickel-mining zones and coastal stone-quarry areas. Women disproportionately experience these impacts through livelihood dispossession, increased unpaid reproductive labour, and heightened health risks. In this context, the central question […]

More-than-human Farming: Cooperatives, climate shocks and digital adaptation in Rwanda’s agrarian economy

Keywords

Overview

Rwanda remains a predominantly agrarian economy, with the majority of the population relying on rain-fed farming for livelihoods. This reliance makes rural communities particularly vulnerable to climate shocks such as heavy rains, floods, droughts, and pest outbreaks, which disrupt production and markets in significant and uneven ways. Women and youth farmers are disproportionately affected, facing […]

Sa’icelen as Community Strength: Indigenous women, care work and disaster justice in eastern Taiwan

Indigenous communities globally are at the forefront of developing holistic, place-based responses to the climate crisis, yet their knowledge and leadership remain systematically marginalised in mainstream environmental governance. This article examines two Indigenous-led initiatives on Taiwan’s east coast – the Amis tribe’s post-typhoon recovery and the Atayal tribe’s revitalisation of ancestral farming practices – to […]

No one left behind: Towards disability-inclusive approaches for gender and climate research

Keywords

Overview

Although development programming and research around gender and climate has been increasing over the last decade across the sector, there has been insufficient focus on disability and intersectionality. Further, while locally led development is increasingly seen as best practice in policy and scholarly literature, too often consultation takes place after projects have been designed, rather […]
