Overview

How does a fast-moving consumer goods-procurement operation impact the lives and livelihoods of producers? This case study draws lessons from a joint project between Oxfam and Unilever in Azerbaijan to set up a supply chain for onion powder for the leading soups and stocks brand Knorr. It looks at the challenges around implementing the project on the ground, as well as at the level of two international organizations learning how to work together – Oxfam’s role as ‘critical friend’ to Unilever aimed to increase their understanding of how to achieve better livelihoods for smallholder farmers and workers.
