Ownership in Practice: The key to smart development
Overview
Why is it so important to improve US foreign aid? One billion people have been left behind by current global development trends. Aid, used in smart ways, can save lives and help people get themselves out of poverty. Better yet, smart aid can help make other local, national, and global economic and political forces work for people experiencing poverty.
This research report covers information about informing countries about what donors are doing, capacity and helping countreis lead and control. US foreign aid should be at least transparent and hopefully predictable; the US government should make our technical assistance more demand driven and empower local efforts to improve domestic accountability; and the US should limit earmarks and overall increase budget support.
