Effectiveness Review: Promoting Women’s Rights Across Africa: Raising Her Voice Pan Africa
Overview
The ‘Promoting Women’s Rights Across Africa’ (Pan-Africa) project forms part of the Oxfam GB Raising her Voice (RHV) programme portfolio, which aims to support and strengthen women’s roles in shaping policy and local governance. Through the Pan Africa project, RHV committed to support the Solidarity for African Women’s Rights Coalition (SOAWR) secretariat in Kenya as well as partners (SOAWR coalition members) in Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, The Gambia, Mozambique, Liberia, Nigeria and South Africa. Since its inauguration in 2004, SOAWR has been campaigning to compel African states to urgently sign, ratify, domesticate and fully implement the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol), and working to build the capacity of SOAWR Coalition members to promote the Protocol and hold member states to account. This report documents the findings of a qualitative impact evaluation, carried out in April 2013, which used process tracing to assess the effectiveness of the project.
