Overview

The Zambia flood response took place in Mongu district, Western province, for six months in 2007. The objective was to prevent water related diseases and reduce suffering amongst 13,000 people affected by flooding. The specific aim of the cash component (four months) was to prevent malnutrition, harmful levels of asset depletion and/or negative coping strategies by the poorest and most affected. The review evaluates the effectiveness and appropriateness of cash transfers as a tool for addressing food security in Mongu District.
