The BRICS Development Bank: Why the world’s newest global bank must adopt a pro-poor agenda
Overview
This policy brief provides key recommendations for the proposed commitments for BRICS’ new multilateral and Southern-led development bank. The BRICS Development Bank aims to provide a new source of finance with specific commitments to ending extreme poverty and inequality (with a special focus on gender equity and women’s rights), and aligning with environmental and social safeguards. In addition the Bank should establish mechanisms for: supporting information sharing, accountability and redress; providing leadership on the sustainable development agenda; delivering mechanisms for public consultation and debate; and adopting a truly democratic governance structure.
