Urgent Need for Change in Europe’s Approach to Trade Negotiations
Overview
Currently, 76 of the world’s poorest countries are under pressure to sign free trade agreements with Europe, facing threats of tariff increases if an agreement is not in place with by 31 December 2007. As they stand, these agreements would prevent developing countries from making trade work for development. An urgent change in approach is required to create trade agreements between Europe and poor countries that work for development.
