Overview

The Khartoum Urban Poor Programme (KUP) targeted conflict affected IDPs and urban poor groups in camps and/or squatter settlements in Khartoum. It ran from May 2008 to April 2009. Its main objectives were to improve quality of life by increasing access to education for children, helping households build a sustainable livelihood base, and raising community awareness and capacity to campaign for rights. This mid-term report is primarily based on Oxfam project reports, literature on IDPs and primary data collected from target areas between May and June 2008. The objectives were to assess the KUP’s performance, impact and the appropriateness of methods and approaches used, to feed into the development of future strategies and ensure the relevance of Oxfam’s response and the sustainability of its strategic intervention.
