Overview

This article shows how Albanian women are taking active control of daily struggles brought about by an unstable political system and paramount shifts in social and economic structures. How do women take care of the material needs of their family when resources are scarce? How do they cope with no basic health care, lack of reproductive rights, and high birth rates and dealing with problems accessing water, which is restricted to certain times of the day across the country? A final topic considered is the problem of women’s personal security, which is limiting their ability to participate in normal everyday activities.
