This book is intended for staff from government agencies, non-government organizations, academic and research institutions and also donors who work in or for the disaster-prone areas of Ethiopia. The book will also be useful for those working in other disaster-prone regions in Africa and beyond.

It provides guidance on how to reduce disaster risk using an integrated approach and will help in the identification and prioritization of hazards, assessment of vulnerability and capacity, and analysis of risk to prevent or minimize impacts of hazards thus ensuring that hazards do not progress into disasters. It captures and reflects the knowledge and experience of specialists in various aspects of disaster risk reduction and was produced through a participatory writeshop process.
